Goodbye 2013

I know I'm a little late saying goodbye to the old and saying HELLO to the new. I needed to start off the year with  a weight challenge to my fellow author friends. And man, do I need something or I'll be wearing a bag to work because none of my clothes fit me. Then this morning my scale died (hopefully I didn't break it. LOL)

Back to topic. Goodbye 2013, it started out with such happiness and hope. We had the wedding of our youngest daughter in June, with all the lead up parties and fun and planning. Plus it was in our back yard so WORK was involved heavily. But it turned out to be a raging success.

Then things sort of went downhill from there. I'm not going to go into all the yucky details, besides no one wants to hear all of it, and I don't want to relive it. I'll only say one thing and that is, we will miss my mother-in-law. She passed away on Dec. 26 after a long six weeks of decline. She was always so full of life. When we went to New York City in 2008, after a week of running all over the city, we came home and vegged. What did she do? She went to the bar and danced and the next day drove to Wendover, NV to gamble with friends. She was also a big Bronco fan, so I know she'll have a front row seat in football heaven if they go to the Superbowl.

I'm so glad to have a new year, a new beginning... I love my day job, which is a good thing since I need to work for the money and insurance. But I really miss being able to sit and write when my muse was ready. I've also learned the more I try to force the time to write, the more the universe has a way of throwing something in my path. I've come up with some resolutions for 2014. Not really goals or resolutions, but maybe I should call them guidelines for my life:

1. Spend time with my family and friends--because I do not know how long I'll have them to enjoy.
2. Work hard at my day job and play hard on free time--because I do not know what will happen tomorrow.
3. Don't worry about how much time I have to write, but when I find the time, make sure I use it wisely.
4. Never put a date on when to be done with a project. Coming soon is good enough. Because quality work is better than fast sloppy work to get the project done.
5. Celebrate every victory, large or small.

Hopefully these five guidelines will help me live a semi stress free 2014! Oh, and we'll be having a new granddaughter early June, Elizabella Grace!

What are some of your goals, resolutions, or guidelines--whatever you want call them? Happy New Year to all! May all your dreams come true, or get a little closer!
