Set in Oregon in 1850, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers is the story of seven lonely Pontipee brothers. Adam, the oldest, goes to town looking for a bride. He finds Milly working in a restaurant and convinces her to marry him. But Milly's ecstasy quickly sours when she finds she is also to take care of Adam's six unkempt, burly brothers. Deciding to make the marriage work, Milly sets a plan into motion to marry off the brothers, first teaching them how to properly court girls.
The play is performed by local actors from the Oquirrah Hills Performing Arts Alliance. However, you couldn't tell, I felt like I viewed a Broadway play, well alright, maybe an off Broadway play.
Pre-show there was an old fashioned, finger-lickin', lip-smackin', rip roarin', dutch oven dinner. Delicious, and for a good cause, help to fund our community non-profit theatre.
I recommend this play and dinner package to anyone in the local area. The Empress Theatre is unique its self, and a great experience. It's been refurbished, but the building has been kept to the original design. Built in 1916 originally as a Burlesque show for the local miners at Kennecott. In 1917 it began showing silent movies. Small and quaint.
