2007 Relay for Life
These are our survivors for 2007. The weather was a bit warm, but there was a breeze that saved the day. In case you've never done Relay, let me explain a bit about it. Relay for life is an overnight event. Each team has a name and theme. We were Captain Ron and the Jolly Roger's. Every team has a spot to set up their camp for the night. At 6pm there is a survivor ceremony to honor all those battling Cancer and all those who have survived it. Then they do a lap. It's wonderful to see. And they are all ages. We had several children, one is on our team. His name is Stihl and he's amazing. He's been in remission for nine months, and we're keeping our fingers crossed. After the survivor lap, there is a caregiver and then finally a team lap.
Then the walking begins. All through the night each team has at least one or more people walking the track. At 10 pm when it's dark they have the luminaria ceremony.
This is where they light all the bags, and then read the names on the bags. The walkers will walk by the light of the bags throughout the night. Before this happens though there are lots of activities at the campsites. Since we were Captain Ron and the Jolly Roger's we had a Pirates Den. Here are a few pictures.
This is Captain Ron and our mascot pirate!
And of course our Pirates Den! Now a few pictures of our pirates, etc.
Our young pirates!
Now some of our Luminaria bags that lit our way
As you can see we had a good time. It's for a good cause and our team raised $4100.00 this year. If you'd like to learn more about Relay and find a team in your area check this site out
